New Delhi, January 08: Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s shelved magnum opus will finally release on the 25th of January, clashing with another big release of 2018- Padman.
The movie which was earlier slated for a December, 2017 release was postponed due to objections from Rajput Karni Sena, accusing the film makers for portraying queen Padmavati in poor light. Various religious and political groups later joined in staging protests, issuing death threats, and offering bounties for the head of the lead actress, Deepika Padukone.
The movie is expected to face fierce competition from content-driven Padman, helmed by R Balki and starring Akshay Kumar.
The content of the movie was scrutinized by historians to ensure that it did not depict inaccurate history or anything that could tarnish the image of the Rajput culture. The five modifications suggested by the historians were incorporated to the movie along with an alteration in the name from ‘Padmavati to Padmavat’. The film was cleared with a UA certificate.
