Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is stepping into the shoes of a national hero Arunachalam Muruganantham; the inventor of low-cost sanitary napkins for women in rural areas, with PadMan.
The Bollywood movie, which is directed by R Balki and produced by Twinkle Khanna’s Mrs Funnybones Productions also stars Bollywood beauties Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor.
A new poster of PadMan was shared by Akshay Kumar in which the actor is seen staring and smiling at cotton balls with the backdrop of a sanitary napkins factory.
Akshay tweeted, “#PadManTalks: Mad only become famous! @PadManTheFilm @sonamakapoor @radhika_apte @mrsfunnybones @SonyPicsIndia @kriarj #RBalki.”

Earlier, in an interview with a leading daily, when Akshay Kumar was asked about starring in a movie which delves with the topic of menstruation, the actor stated, “If you change nothing, nothing will change. It’s not about being bold, but about breaking taboos that hold us back. I have lived with women all my life, yet I have learnt more about the topic while making this film than ever before. I do not mind who I offend or whose stomach I turn by being bold, this is not the Stone Age; menstruating is natural.”
Whereas, Sonam was all praises for Akshay and Balki as she said, “Such a pleasure working with the indomitable Akshay Kumar. He was the perfect person to play the role of Padman and has brought a sense of humour and love to the film. Of course, none of these would have been possible without the humble visionary R. Balki. Padman is an incredible story that Akshay Kumar has brought to life with such grace and humility. Coming to a city near you.”
PadMan is slated to release on January 26, 2018.
