La,OCt12:on the heels of “The Storm,” Eminem’s furious freestyle evisceration of President Trump that aired during the BET Hip-Hop Awards Tuesday night, comes news that rising Compton rapper Boogie has signed with Shady Records, Em’s label in partnership with longtime manager Paul Rosenberg.

He joins a roster that includes Eminem and his associated side-projects over the years, as well as Slaughterhouse, Yelawold, Westside Gunn and Conway.

The rapper, whose style is often compared with that of Chance the Rapper, released his first proper album, “Thirst 48,” in 2014 and has followed with a succession of albums and mixtapes. Lyrically, he’s very much in line with fellow Compton/Long Beach rappers Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples. “Kendrick opened the door for people like me and Vince to speak up instead of just glorifying the ignorant stuff,” he told Pitchfork last year.

Boogie, 27, had previously been announced as signing with Interscope last year but has presumably been shifted over to Shady. However, in the wake of Rosenberg’s taking the helm as CEO of Def Jam Records at the end of this year, it remains unclear who will be steering the ship at Shady, although the label is more of an imprint and not a full-service major.
