Kelly Clarkson preps her first new single Love So Soft

LA,Sept6:Hopefully you weren’t too distracted by the hot dogs and burgers on Monday (Sept. 4) to notice that Kelly Clarkson revealed that she’s prepping her first new single in two years.

Clarkson dropped the news in a moody black and white teaser video featuring a soaring gospel choir, close-up images of singers Bridget Sarai, Nicole Hurst and JessiCollins, a single wordless ad lib and the sound of a heartbeat rhythm over the song’s title and images of blooming flowers.

And then she pulled back the curtain a bit more on Tuesday (Sept. 5) morning with a 13-second listen to the a cappella vocals. “But I need/ Need to know,” Clarkson sings in a powerful rush, “Will you protect me, respect me, if I let you close?”

A spokesperson for Clarkson could not be reached for further comment on the single. Clarkson’s official website has a countdown that expires at 6 a.m. ET on Thursday. After leaving longtime label RCA Records last year, Clarkson signed a long-term deal with Atlantic Records, for whom she’s working on new music that she said will draw on soul and R&B for inspiration.

“We have already started creating a record that I have been wanting to make since I was a little girl, and a record that fans have been asking me to make for years,” Clarkson said in a statement at the time of the signing. “Here’s to the future!”
