New York,August25:Singer Taylor Swift has officially dropped her new single, ‘Look What You Made Me Do.’ As promised, the 27-year-old singer released her fresh tune promptly at Friday midnight on iTunes.
Look What You Made Me Do’ is the first single from Swift’s forthcoming sixth album, Reputation, which will be released November 10. The new LP is the follow-up to 2014’s album of the year winner, 1989.
The music is addictive with bass beats initiating the deprived fans. The casing of piano and synth notes are the cherry on top.
Directed by Joseph Kahn who was also responsible for directing videos for her smash hits Bad Blood, Blank Space and others, the lyrical video begins with chess pieces and the first verse ends with a snake eating its own tail. Reference to the cryptic images the singer put on her social media accounts as a run up to the announcement of the new album.
The dark lyrics read,
I don’t like your little games
Don’t like your tilted stage
The role you made me play
Of the fool, no, I don’t like you
I don’t like your perfect crime
How you laugh when you lie
You said the gun was mine
Isn’t cool, no, I don’t like you (oh!)
There are so many targets Tay-Tay could be pointing her lyrical gun at. In the gap of three years since her last release, Swift was in the news for her feuds with Kim Kardashian West, Kanye West, Katy Perry, ex Calvin Harris. Her whirlwind romance with British hottie Tom Hiddleston was the talk of the town. Her victory over Apple Music and Spotify’s royalty issues were big wins for artists.
But there is a clear message that has been sent out by Swift. The last line of the song goes,
“I’m sorry, the old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now.”
“Oh ’cause she’s dead!”
The first interpretation could be the older, nicer, version of the Wildest Dreams singer will no longer be available. This can be connected to her meet and greets that led to the recently concluded sexual assault trial and her PR team wiping out her digital presence on social media.
The second interpretation is more apparent. Taylor Swift is no longer bound to country music. 1989 started it, Reputation just seems to be building up on it.
