No heavy make-up allowed on the set of 'Begum Jaan,' says 'Begum Jaan' director

National award-winning director Srjit Mukherji is recognized for being exceptionally thorough with his research. The filmmaker is making his Bollywood debut with ‘Begum Jaan’ – the Hindi adaptation of his Bengali film ‘Rajkahini’.

‘Begum Jaan’ stars Vidya Balan in the lead role. While shooting the film, the director decided to keep the look of the characters as real as possible as the story demands and thus, the cast was advised to use nominal make-up on their faces.

However, some of the girls would turn up with faces full of makeup. But Srijit, being the perfectionist, would see it instantly, and used to check every girl’s make-up before filming.

“It became a ritual for a few days. I was like a school teacher who would check make-up and nails. I used to sit with wet tissues and wipe off all the extra make-up. Since the story is set in a different world, I didn’t want them to have heavy make-up and manicured nails,” said Srijit as per a report in TOI.
